About Mirtle

I'm Mirtle Peña-Calderón, a writer, editor, and founder of Latinidad Collective.

I grew up understanding that stories are how communities hold themselves together. They're how we make sense of hard things, pass down what matters, and remind each other that we're not alone. That belief is at the root of everything I do.

My work is helping writers, founders, and creatives get their ideas out of their heads and into the world: clearly, honestly, and in their own voice. That looks different depending on whom I'm working with.

Sometimes it's editing. Sometimes it's working through a story from the beginning. Sometimes it's helping someone figure out what they're actually trying to say before they can write a single word.

Outside of work, I'm usually reading something that makes me think, planning a trip, or paying close attention to the kind of everyday moment most people walk right past.

Why I Do This Work

I've seen firsthand what happens when someone is made to feel that their story doesn't belong. They are told that it's too complicated, too specific, or too different to matter.

It doesn't just affect their writing. It affects how they see themselves.

That's the thing I keep coming back to. Storytelling isn't just a craft. It's how we make sense of who we are and where we come from. When someone loses access to their own voice, something real is lost.

My work is about helping people get that back. Not by simplifying their stories, but by honoring everything that makes them what they are (the nuance, the culture, the lived experience) and helping it land the way it deserves to.
